I am often asked, “How does meditation work? Now I have to ask a few questions of myself before I can give an honest answer. For example, is the person asking how does meditation work for stress relief? Or are they asking how does meditation work for controlling blood pressure? Or maybe they want to know how does meditation help someone who is looking to uncover their deepest nature?
So a lot depends on why you are asking the question, “How does meditation work?” You see there are many reasons why someone would ask the question.
The truth is, even though I have been meditating for over 25 years, there are people much more qualified than me to answer questions about meditation and stress relief, or meditation and blood pressure.
However, I am very experienced and qualified to explain to you, or at least attempt to explain to you, how meditation works for someone looking to uncover their deepest nature. This deepest nature, which I call enlightenment, is the most realized state of permanent existence and it can be discovered and revealed to you.
Many years ago, I was extremely interested in the subject of enlightenment and I wanted to discover it for myself. I explored many meditation groups and I was almost always asked to meditate in a particular way. I was also asked to believe in a set of beliefs that would ‘one day’ lead to my personal enlightenment.
Actually, I had already had enough of blindly believing in stuff. This time I wanted to talk to an enlightened person to see for myself if it was possible to really be enlightened. I wanted to know how I personally could discover enlightenment for myself. So if I could find someone who was already enlightened, then I would know it was possible for me too.
It was at this point that I was told that it was impossible by the meditation groups that I was a part of. I was also told of a ‘version’ of enlightenment that even I could see had its limitations. So I decided not to settle for living in hope, and putting my trust in those could not provide me with solid answers. I decided not to take the word of others but to keep looking for myself. So I embarked on a journey of discovery.
Eventually I came across a meditation instructor who encouraged me to believe in nothing but rather to find out for myself. This wise man introduced me to other enlightened teachers and I was actively encouraged to ask as many questions as I so pleased. I was told that by using specific meditation techniques, that I would eventually discover true enlightenment. What I was very excited about was that I was told that I could make these discoveries not in the ‘next life’, but rather in this life. So I began to following their advice, and in a very short period of time I came to know more about myself than I ever had before.
A few years later, I finally discovered the state of true enlightenment. I assure you that I will talk about enlightenment many times on this web site, so I will save much of this for another post.
Going back to the original question, “How does meditation work?” I know one thing for certain. Meditation works by you simply being as still as you can be and being as present as you can be. I call this LETTING GO.
You probably would like to know what I mean by LETTING GO? After all, you can be trapped in a prison and let go all you want and you will still be trapped in a prison. By introducing to you very special meditation techniques, you will see, it is possible for the very space that you exist in, to be gloriously expanded.
We do this by opening your Third Eye chakra. When you are able to open the third eye, you now have a space that will allow you to let go, a space that you currently do not have. As you progressively let go into this ‘new space’ and as you begin to access realms of creation, and even beyond creation, that you are currently not even aware of, you eventually let go completely and totally.
It is at this very point that you will begin to realise for yourself, within yourself, the state of BEING that is called ENLIGHTENMENT.
I hope you can see that by asking this simple question, “How does meditation work?” that it was not such a simple question after all!
So if you are asking the question, how does meditation work and you are looking for true enlightenment, then I would like help you learn more about meditation and where it can take you.
